Recent phone calls between U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have become noticeably less cordial, according to several people familiar with the matter who spoke to The Wall Street Journal.
In one recent conversation, Trump reportedly asked Netanyahu, “Why are you blowing up buildings? Stop.” The report says Netanyahu pushed back by asking how Trump intended to enforce any Iranian nuclear restrictions in a deal and laid out historical reasons not to trust Tehran.
Trump later told aides that no one can deal with Netanyahu because he “wants to bomb everybody,” and that he was tired of it, the Journal reported. U.S. administration officials were also said to be wondering whether Netanyahu wants to keep the war going because of his political constraints.
The article does not say the calls led to any immediate policy change, but it suggests growing friction between the two leaders over the war and the Iran file.
