Ex-Envoy: Israel Cannot Confront World on West Bank Policies
Former Israeli diplomat Alon Liel stated that Israel cannot continue its policies in the West Bank and expect no international repercussions. Liel's remarks came in response to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's comments on sanctions against settlements and his criticism of ongoing Israeli policies in the West Bank. Sunak also warned that settlement plans in the E1 area could jeopardize the two-state solution.
Liel, a researcher in international relations, emphasized that the Israeli government's actions in the West Bank are increasingly isolating the country on the global stage. Speaking on Radio Al-Shams, he asserted, "The Israeli government cannot go against the entire world with its policies and practices in the West Bank and expect the world not to react to these practices."
He added that such policies place Israel in a growing confrontation with the international community, highlighting the need for a shift in approach to avoid further isolation.
