Maccabi Ramat Gan Basketball Team Opens Season in Winner Cup
Maccabi Ramat Gan, also known as Maccabi Kna'an Ramat Gan, will commence their 2026-2027 basketball season on Wednesday at 6:30 PM, playing an away game against Hapoel HaEmek in Kiryat Ata. This match marks the first round of the Winner Cup tournament.
The team has undergone significant changes for the new season, with only three players from the previous year returning: Gil Beni, who was named team captain earlier this week, Yonatan Attias, and young player Ilai Gabay. They are joined by experienced Israeli players Joaquin Schokman (12 seasons in the Premier League), Lior Cartera (8 seasons), and Roei Frantzki (5 seasons), as well as American-Israeli Justin Allen, who played in the NCAA.
Four new foreign players have also been added: Bryce Washington, who is familiar with the Israeli league from his previous three seasons; A.J. Figueroa, in his second season in Israel; and Justin Lewis and Amhed Kayber, both making their Israeli Premier League debut.
Alon Hasin, the new head coach of Maccabi Ramat Gan, stated that the Winner Cup serves as a combination of a practice game and an official match, allowing the team to refine their strategies for the upcoming league games. He emphasized the desire to win while also integrating new players, noting Lior Cartera's recent arrival to the team and expressing satisfaction with the professional and social cohesion among the players. Hasin hopes for a successful season.
