Energy Minister Cohen Addresses Justice Minister Role, Iran's Deterrence

Energy Minister Eli Cohen discussed the potential appointment of the next Justice Minister, stating that the Prime Minister ultimately decides on ministerial portfolios. He acknowledged that Yariv Levin has expressed a desire to continue in the role, but emphasized that winning the upcoming elections is the immediate priority. Cohen expressed satisfaction with the addition of Yaakov Bardugo to the Likud party's list, suggesting it brings renewed energy and strengthens the party.

Cohen also addressed the reported call between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the United Arab Emirates shortly before the October 7th attack, though details were not elaborated upon. He asserted that Iran is currently deterred from attacking Israel, despite the severity of the October 7th events for which he admitted the government bears responsibility. Cohen highlighted Israel's position as the strongest power in the Middle East and pointed to the security buffer zones in challenging areas as evidence of its strength.

He further argued that Iran's reluctance to attack Israel, while targeting surrounding Muslim nations, demonstrates its fear and deterrence. Cohen concluded by stating that any entity that previously intended to act against Israel is no longer in a position to do so.
