Journalist Raviv Drucker Accuses Eli Goldshmidt of Political Opportunism

Israeli journalist Raviv Drucker has sharply criticized Eli Goldshmidt, a former politician and Labor Party member now ranked 26th on the Likud party's Knesset list. Drucker alleges that Goldshmidt's recent public statements, which appear to signal a shift in his political views, are not a genuine "awakening" but rather a cynical ploy to secure a political comeback.

Drucker recalled previously respecting Goldshmidt but now believes his actions are driven by a "thirst for the spotlight" or a calculated political strategy. He presented evidence of Goldshmidt's past strong criticisms of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including videos posted after the outbreak of the war, where Goldshmidt questioned Netanyahu's character and leadership. Drucker contrasted these with Goldshmidt's later statements, which expressed support for Netanyahu and characterized the political divide as "left is cold, right is hot."

Drucker asserted that Goldshmidt likely deleted his earlier critical videos and has been "working hard on his reservation" for a Knesset seat in recent months. He presented further quotes from Goldshmidt, including remarks about needing "a very big body part" to do certain things and a declaration that he would vote for whoever supports Netanyahu, whom he believes should remain prime minister.

Concluding his critique, Drucker suggested Goldshmidt's perceived transformation is solely for personal political gain, potentially aiming for a seat alongside Likud figures like David Amsalem and Miri Regev. Drucker warned Goldshmidt against such "pathetic pursuit of a chair," referencing the experiences of other politicians like Idit Silman and Gideon Sa'ar, and stating that such actions would leave only a "mark of Cain."
