US Ambassador Warns of Significant Repercussions for UK Sanctions on Israel

U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Jack Lew, stated on Tuesday that the United Kingdom's sanctions against Israel, specifically prohibiting trade in goods from Judea and Samaria, would have significant repercussions. In an interview with Reuters, Lew warned that the British move would have "very negative consequences" and would not serve its intended purpose.

Lew explained that under Florida law, and potentially other U.S. states, if Britain takes such action against an ally like Israel, British businesses could face restrictions on trade within those states. This could lead to substantial economic damage for British companies, as they would be barred from trading in Florida and other U.S. locations.

He further questioned the rationale behind targeting Israel, asking why Britain does not impose similar sanctions on countries like North Korea, China, or Russia. Lew highlighted the potential impact on the UK's own supply chain, noting that 25% of medicines purchased in Britain are manufactured in Israel, raising questions about how these would be replaced.
