British Citizens Petition Parliament Against Israel Sanctions

Eight hundred British citizens, through the National Jewish Assembly, have submitted a petition to members of Parliament challenging the UK government's stance on Israeli actions and its potential imposition of sanctions on Israel. The petition specifically disputes the government's interpretation of "settler violence" and its plans for a Palestinian state that would include East Jerusalem.

The initiative, reported by Channel 14, is a direct response to threats from London to enact sanctions against Israel and reassess bilateral relations due to the situation in Judea and Samaria. Steve Winston, managing director of the National Jewish Assembly, stated that advocating for pro-Israel positions in the UK has become significantly more difficult since 2024 under the Labour government.

The letter-writing campaign aims to convey citizens' perspectives directly to parliamentarians and to warn against the dangers of silence amidst rising anti-Israel sentiment. The petition's authors argue that the UK government is unfairly assigning responsibility for the actions of a small minority to all Israeli communities. They also question the methodology of the UN, citing UN Watch's findings that incidents are exaggerated.

Representatives of the Jewish community assert that Jerusalem must remain under Israeli sovereignty to ensure free access to holy sites for all faiths. The National Jewish Assembly plans further large-scale events, including a Parliamentary Lobbying Day.
