Shadrut Mayor Alon Davidi Seeks Senior Role in Religious Zionism Party

Shadrut Mayor Alon Davidi has presented a list of demands to Bezalel Smotrich, chairman of the Religious Zionism party, as a condition for joining the party's electoral list. Davidi is seeking a reserved spot for himself on the list, an additional position for Itamar Itam, and a senior ministerial role in the next government.

Discussions between Davidi and Smotrich are ongoing, but no final agreement has been reached. The outcome of these negotiations is expected to determine whether Davidi will ultimately join the Religious Zionism slate.

Earlier this month, prior to the public disclosure of these negotiations, Smotrich visited the Hesder Yeshiva in Shadrut. During his visit, Smotrich praised Davidi, stating, "I have been in politics for 11 years, four of them as Minister of Finance, and I have not seen such talented and professional a mayor and local leadership." Davidi publicly supported Smotrich during the visit, commending his uncompromising stance on the war and his efforts to secure the city's borders, calling him "a friend of the periphery and the people of Israel."
