Tel Aviv-Jaffa Invests $6.7 Million in Major Jaffa Cultural Center Renovation

The Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality is launching a comprehensive renovation and expansion project for the Anis Cultural Center in the heart of Jaffa's D neighborhood, with an investment of NIS 25 million (approximately $6.7 million USD). Construction is slated to begin in September 2026 and is expected to last for 12 months. Throughout the renovation period, the center will continue its programming from alternative locations, including the Mandel Center and the Music Center, to ensure cultural continuity.

The project will integrate the existing structure with new construction, featuring a new auditorium equipped with a retractable seating tribune suitable for plays, dance performances, and various events. A unique rooftop terrace will be built to serve as an open space for film screenings and community activities. The center will also house a new café accessible to the public even when the cultural center is closed.

Additionally, the main foyer will be expanded, new workshop and actor rooms will be added, and advanced safety infrastructure will be installed. Amir Badran, Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, stated that the renovation is a response to rising crime in Jaffa, emphasizing the municipality's belief that investing in education, sports, and culture is a key strategy to combat violence and enhance public safety.

The Anis Cultural Center currently serves as a hub for repertory theater and film, screening festival films, Israeli cinema, and movies from the Arab world. This project is part of a broader municipal initiative that has invested approximately NIS 340 million (around $90 million USD) in recent years to revitalize community institutions in Jaffa, including the Beit Cherner Community Country Club, Beit Barakat Center, Beit Rakea Center, and Lev Jaffa Center, all aimed at empowering the community and improving the quality of life in the city.
