Israeli journalist Yinon Magal and commentator Ben Caspit engaged in a heated debate on 103FM radio regarding reports of a warning from UAE official Yousef Al Otaiba to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prior to the October 7th Hamas attacks. Magal challenged the veracity of the reports, demanding concrete proof and criticizing the media's coverage, particularly that of Channel 12's Yonit Levy.

Caspit linked the Al Otaiba warning to previous reports of Egyptian intelligence alerts before the attack, suggesting a pattern of external warnings about Hamas's intentions that were not adequately heeded. He reframed the public discourse from "Why wasn't he alerted?" to "Why didn't he alert us?", implying a failure at the highest political level.

Magal countered that if such a significant conversation had occurred, there would be official records, and Netanyahu would not be able to deny it so categorically. He expressed frustration with what he perceived as a self-perpetuating cycle of reports, demanding evidence beyond the current media narrative and directly questioning Levy's sources.

Caspit, in turn, criticized the Prime Minister's office for alleged poor record-keeping and documentation practices over the years, referencing past controversies involving former Secretary to the Government Tzachi Braverman. He asserted that Netanyahu, as the ultimate political authority in the lead-up to October 7th, bears overall responsibility for the policy towards Hamas.

The exchange concluded without resolution, with Magal insisting on proof of the Al Otaiba conversation and Caspit maintaining that the accumulation of reports and sources strengthened his belief in the story's credibility. The core issue, Caspit argued, is not just what security agencies knew on the eve of the attack, but also what warnings reached the political echelon in the preceding weeks and how they were handled.
