Israel's UN Envoy Slams NYC Mayor Over Planned Netanyahu Protests

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has sharply criticized New York City Mayor Eric Adams for calling on residents to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's upcoming visit for the UN General Assembly. Danon accused Adams of inciting chaos and doing the opposite of what a mayor should do when world leaders visit.

"He is inciting, he is sowing chaos in the city," Danon told Fox News, adding that the calls for demonstrations would not deter Israel. "This will not deter us. The Prime Minister will come, speak, and represent our nation."

Adams had previously urged those opposing Netanyahu to exercise their right to protest during his visit, stating in July that protest is a "foundation of our city" and that New York "will continue to be a place where freedom of expression can be exercised."

When asked if Netanyahu planned to meet with Adams, Danon responded, "I don't think the Prime Minister wants to meet with him." Netanyahu himself has stated his intention to visit New York despite the friction, saying he would "go to New York. I am going to tell the truth in front of this public official who spreads hatred and incites one group of New Yorkers against another."

Danon also mentioned that Netanyahu's speech at the UN is expected to cover Israel's achievements in its ongoing conflicts and future opportunities, emphasizing that Israel's fight against Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas is not just for its own security but for Western democracies as well.
