Greek authorities have imposed sanctions after the violent end to Game 5 of the Greek league final between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, where Kendrick Nunn and Tyrique Jones were involved in a tunnel fight. On Wednesday, the Greek anti-violence committee said it reviewed video, police reports, technical observer reports, and statements from its own representatives before issuing its ruling.
Nunn was fined 50,000 euros, while Panathinaikos was hit with one home match without fans. The committee said it was taking a tougher line because club owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos had already been fined 50,000 euros earlier in the season for similar behavior.
The new penalty adds to previous disciplinary measures already handed down by the Greek league tribunal, leaving Panathinaikos set to begin next season with four home games closed to spectators in total. The case, however, is not over.
Alongside the sanctions, the committee summoned Panathinaikos, as well as players Mathias Lessort and Jerian Grant, for a hearing on June 22 over suspicion they were involved in a “serious violent incident” between club members, players, and police near the locker rooms after the game. If that incident is upheld, Panathinaikos could face additional punishment, further extending the fallout from one of the most volatile finals in Greek basketball in recent years.
