Knesset Constitution Committee Chair Simcha Rothman Slams Opposition Leader Yair Lapid

Simcha Rothman, Chairman of the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, has sharply criticized Opposition Leader Yair Lapid regarding his remarks on the government's economic policy. Rothman defended the current Finance Minister and attacked the previous government's performance.

"Someone should take Yair away from the keyboard, so the public doesn't accidentally remember that during his and Bennett's government, inflation was the highest since 2002," Rothman stated. He further elaborated on the impact of inflation, noting it forced the Bank of Israel governor to raise interest rates to a peak of 4.75%, increasing mortgage burdens. Rothman contrasted this with the current year, which he described as having the lowest inflation since the COVID-19 pandemic, projecting it to be 2026.

Rothman praised the current government's budget management, attributing a series of interest rate cuts to its fiscal responsibility, which he claims leaves more money in people's pockets. He concluded by emphasizing a strong shekel, a robust economy, and responsible management.

In a separate statement, Rothman addressed Prime Minister Netanyahu, urging him to "open the Temple Mount for prayers and shofar blowing." Rothman directed his criticism at Lapid, offering full backing to the Finance Minister, and advised Lapid to leave economic matters to those who understand them, asserting that the current Finance Minister successfully managed Israel's economy during a highly challenging period despite opposition criticism.
