Public relations executive Itamar Bebi announced on Wednesday that he and Naomi Doyev have ended their engagement, about a month after getting engaged. In a candid post, he said the decision came after the couple realized there were gaps between them that were difficult to bridge or live with.
Bebi addressed a common attitude in the haredi community, saying many people wrongly think canceling an engagement after betrothal lowers both the man and the woman to a “second class” status. He argued the opposite, saying such a decision can reflect “life wisdom” and a real desire to build a faithful home in Israel that will “succeed, flourish and thrive.”
He wrote, “I hereby announce that I and the perfect girl I was engaged to decided to go our separate ways.” Bebi also said he wanted to prevent unnecessary gossip that would not help either side, and briefly explained that although the woman had many good qualities and shared views, the differences between them were too hard to overcome.
Bebi added that his name and personality are “much bigger, more powerful and more complex” than people think or know. He said that if anyone is worried about him, he is fine and grateful to God for helping them understand the situation now. He ended his post with, “Father, thank you, Itamar.”
