Israeli Educators Face Emotional Crisis Amid Rising Stress and Parental Conflict

Ice
Translated & summarized from Ice by baba
The story · English

A new report reveals a severe emotional crisis among Israeli teachers and kindergarten staff, with 88% of educational psychologists observing a sharp increase in their distress. The report, based on data from approximately 310 psychologists, indicates that 64.2% received direct calls concerning teachers' mental health issues, including depression, stress, and anxiety. Another 31.9% of these calls dealt with processing traumatic events experienced by educators.

The psychologists also noted a significant rise in conflicts between parents and school staff, with 79.3% reporting worsening relations, a dramatic increase from 49.3% two years ago. This escalation occurs alongside reported increases in student violence, bullying, and regulation difficulties within classrooms.

One teacher from southern Israel described the immense frustration, stating, "As a teacher, I need to show resilience to the children, but every morning I also think about how to survive the day. I have to hide my personal worries, my fatigue, the burden, and the anxieties about the situation like everyone else."

Dr. Karni Gigi, a leader of the Forum for Organizations for Public Psychology, warned that security instability and anxiety waves disproportionately affect children, destabilize families, and place a heavy emotional burden on educators who are tasked with maintaining normalcy for everyone.

The psychologists are calling for immediate resource allocation and a national emergency plan to prevent a total collapse of the public psychological service.
