Matan Kahane Urges Parties Under Six Seats to Unite or Quit

Member of Knesset Matan Kahane, a prominent figure in the "Yashar!" party, has stated that parties failing to secure at least six Knesset seats should either merge with others or withdraw from the upcoming elections. This message is directed at parties like Benny Gantz's National Unity and Ofer Winter's potential list, urging them to consolidate or step aside.

Kahane emphasized that the "Yashar!" party list is finalized and has been submitted, indicating no changes are expected. He also outlined his party's vision for the next government, stating they aim to form the broadest possible "Zionist government" composed of parties that believe in a Jewish and democratic State of Israel and the values of the Declaration of Independence. He noted that currently, no Arab or Haredi parties meet these criteria.

Addressing the controversy surrounding a memorial event for Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Kahane expressed that while Rabbi Yosef deserves a respectful commemoration, the event should not become politicized. He acknowledged concerns that such gatherings could be exploited for political purposes, stressing the importance of honoring his memory without political interference.

Kahane also commented on the potential for his party to win a majority, expressing confidence in their ability to form a government and replace the current one, suggesting that even Prime Minister Netanyahu might struggle to form a coalition with fewer "Jewish" or "Zionist" mandates than "Yashar!". He also acknowledged the contributions of veteran Haredi lawmakers Moshe Gafni and Uri Maklev, stating they deserve appreciation for their service.
