Syria Blames Israel for Hindering Druze Crisis Resolution

Following the surrender of Kurdish forces in Syria, Damascus is attempting to resolve a growing crisis with the Druze community in the country's south. However, Syrian officials claim that increased Israeli support for separatist elements within the Druze community is frustrating these efforts, according to a report by Kan News.

The spiritual leader of the Syrian Druze, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri, recently stated that the Druze are an "inseparable part of Israel." This declaration has raised alarms in Damascus, particularly given perceptions of strengthening ties between Syria and Israel.

Al-Hajri has emerged as a dominant figure in the region since the Syrian regime's actions in the Druze Mountain area. He is reportedly leading a hardline stance against the Syrian government, headed by Ahmad al-Shar'a, who advocates for Druze separatism and closer ties with Israel.

A Syrian security official told Kan News that Israel "assists al-Hajri and his men, the 'National Guard,' from the air every week." The official further stated that Israel's intensified support for al-Hajri and its attempts to bolster his position are preventing any resolution in the Druze Mountain area. "The Kurds presented us with conditions. In the case of al-Hajri, there are not even conditions he is setting to reach a solution," the official added.

Damascus expresses frustration with Israel's actions, warning that they could backfire. The report also briefly mentions the surrender of Kurds in Syria and a separate initiative providing Israeli medical treatment to Syrian children.
