Dr. Aliza Bloch, former mayor of Beit Shemesh, has joined Benny Gantz's National Unity party ahead of the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. Bloch recently ran as part of the "HaAchdut" (The Unity) party, which announced its withdrawal from the elections just days prior. Her move to National Unity provides Gantz with a figure possessing significant public and educational experience.
Bloch served as the mayor of Beit Shemesh from 2018 to 2024, defeating the incumbent Moshe Abutbul. During her tenure, she focused on initiatives aimed at bridging divides between the city's diverse populations. Her previous political vehicle, "HaAchdut," led by Gilad Erdan and Yuli Edelstein, decided not to compete in the current election cycle, prompting Bloch's search for a new political home.
Gantz welcomed Bloch's addition, stating, "The State of Israel must establish a broad, Zionist government that will allow us to confront the nation's challenges. Aliza, who has proven her ability to connect different groups through her actions, is a significant addition to the National Unity list."
