IDF Diverts Missile Mid-Flight to Avert Civilian Casualties in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released unique footage on Monday demonstrating its commitment to distinguishing between combatants and civilians and employing all possible precautions to minimize harm to non-combatants. During an operation targeting a Hamas operative in the Gaza Strip, a gathering of civilians was detected near the operative.

The IDF confirmed that the munition, already in the air, was diverted from its original trajectory in real-time to prevent civilian casualties. According to the IDF spokesperson, because the munition could not be canceled after launch, it was steered away from the civilian presence. The released video captures the precise moment the munition altered its course while airborne.

"This incident illustrates once again the IDF's commitment to distinguishing between terrorists and civilians and taking all possible precautions to minimize harm to them," the IDF spokesperson stated. This event occurs as the IDF continues targeted operations in Gaza to neutralize immediate threats.

The incident follows other recent IDF operations in Gaza. On Sunday, an IDF engineering vehicle encountered an explosive device planted by Hamas near the Gaza border in northern Gaza, an act the IDF described as a "blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement by the Hamas terror organization." In response, the IDF attacked Hamas infrastructure overnight. Additionally, the IDF recently eliminated Muhammad al-Qadi, a Nukhba commando commander who led the raid on the Sufa outpost during the October 7th massacre and was involved in holding hostages in the Rafah area. Al-Qadi was targeted in Khan Younis to neutralize the threat he posed.
