Ex-IDF Chief Eisenkot Warns of Existential Threat, Calls for New Leadership

Former IDF Chief of Staff and "Yash" party leader Gadi Eisenkot launched a scathing critique of Israel's current government and ruling elite on Monday, September 7, 2026. Speaking at his party's conference, Eisenkot declared that Israel stands at a "fateful crossroads" and desperately needs responsible leadership to end internal divisions.

Eisenkot's remarks came as his party officially submitted its list of candidates for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections under the "Derech" (The Way) electoral slate. He emphasized the critical nature of the current political moment, stating that the elections represent a "very important and extremely fateful choice." He accused some of seeking to normalize leadership through "incitement, lies, deception, and crushing."

Addressing security and strategic matters, the former military chief issued a direct and urgent warning. "I say this tonight very clearly: Israel is fighting for its security and its deepest interests. The way Israel is being led today is dangerous; this is not a general or routine warning, but an immediate and tangible one," Eisenkot stated.

He concluded by calling for a "radical and comprehensive change in the pyramid of power." Eisenkot asserted that the nation and its citizens "urgently need and are compelled to choose new leadership, leadership that unites the ranks and ends the state of internal division."

These developments formally confirm Eisenkot's independent run in the elections, rejecting recent integration and alliance efforts within the center-right political bloc.
