Kidnapper of 10-Year-Old Boy Suspected in Further Crimes in Israel

Israeli police revealed new information regarding the kidnapping of 10-year-old Yali Sofer, stating they are investigating potential involvement of the 20-year-old suspect in crimes against other minors across the country. During a court hearing in Petah Tikva on September 7, a police representative confirmed receiving intelligence about other children who may have encountered the suspect in various locations. Details of these potential new incidents were not disclosed as the investigation is ongoing.

The suspect's detention was extended by four days by the court. His defense attorney argued for his release to house arrest, citing mental health issues, but the judge denied the request. According to Yali's mother, Shiran Shabtai Sofer, the suspect had previously threatened Yali and his friends, demanding money. After the incident, the suspect allegedly told Yali he was homeless and used the boy to beg for money. He then purchased bus tickets to Bnei Brak with funds obtained from begging.

Yali was missing for approximately 24 hours. His photograph circulated on social media after other children informed their parents about him leaving with a stranger. The suspect was apprehended around 1 AM the following day in Bnei Brak when a passerby noticed the child with the suspicious young man and alerted the police. Simultaneously, authorities located them using the suspect's mobile phone data. Yali was returned to his parents physically unharmed but in severe psychological distress.

The investigation continues as police work to determine the circumstances of any other potential offenses committed by the suspect.
