Bennett and Eizenkot Parties Will Run Separately in Elections
Despite recent negotiations, former Israeli Defense Minister Gadi Eizenkot's "Yashar" party and former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's "BeYachad" party will not unite for the upcoming Knesset elections. The parties' representatives submitted their lists on Monday, confirming they will run independently.
Discussions about a joint run continued until the end of last week. However, a comprehensive poll indicated that a merger would not increase their combined strength and could even diminish it. The survey suggested that a joint list might cause 2% of their potential voters to shift to Prime Minister Netanyahu's bloc.
Bennett and Eizenkot had been in contact for months regarding a potential alliance. The decision to run separately was reportedly based on the poll's findings. Earlier, Eizenkot had announced the addition of Chili Tropper and his party members to his list, with Tropper slated for the sixth position. This followed Tropper and Yoaz Hendel's announcement of dissolving their "Zionist House and Reservists" partnership.
