A light business jet crashed on a highway near Laredo, Texas, in an unusual incident that triggered a large emergency response. According to initial reports, everyone aboard managed to get out of the aircraft after the crash, with help from police and civilians who were already at the scene. At the time of reporting, officials had not released any formal information on the number of injuries or the condition of the passengers.
A local page shared a frightening video of the crash, and the post said, “Emergency crews are responding to a reported plane crash near Loop 20 and Saunders Street.” The footage showed officers pulling people from the aircraft, while bystanders rushed in to help. Passengers were evacuated one by one even as the plane burned.
In video released by the Laredo Police Department, one officer said the plane came down near a railroad track and made an emergency landing that ended in a crash. Security forces quickly sealed off the area and moved onlookers away so rescue work and the investigation could continue. The officer said everyone who was removed from the plane was alive, and there was no indication at that stage of injuries to drivers or pedestrians on the road when the incident happened.
The crash site remained secured while crews prepared for a full inspection. U.S. authorities said they were opening an investigation into the cause of the accident, with separate probes to be carried out by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.
