Israeli Forces Demolish Homes in Jerusalem, Displace Residents

Israeli forces demolished three homes in the Beit Hanina neighborhood, north of Jerusalem, on Monday, citing unlicensed construction as the reason. The Wadi Hilweh Information Center reported that municipal crews, accompanied by bulldozers, entered the town, surrounded the area, and then proceeded to demolish the three houses belonging to the Abu Miyaala family, reducing them to rubble. The demolitions resulted in the displacement of 21 individuals, including children, who resided in the homes. Marwan Abu Miyaala, a Jerusalem resident, stated that bulldozers destroyed his home, his siblings' homes, and his mother's home, all within a building containing three apartments. He added that the family was not given sufficient time to remove their belongings, despite having lived there for approximately 20 years.

In a related development, Israeli authorities issued notices to vacate five additional homes in northern Jerusalem, signaling impending demolition. One of these notices was served to a homeowner near the Jaba military checkpoint, who was given 24 hours to evacuate, despite ongoing legal objections filed in court. Additionally, four homes in the Al-Ram town's Al-Quds suburb were ordered to be vacated within two days.

These actions are part of an ongoing policy that restricts Palestinian construction in Jerusalem, coinciding with settlement expansion and land confiscation. The Governorate of Jerusalem documented 133 demolition and bulldozing operations in August. The Wall and Settlements Resistance Commission recorded 71 demolitions affecting 155 structures, including 47 occupied residences, directly impacting approximately 200 Palestinians, among them 75 children and 56 women.
