Ancient Wine Press Discovered Near Latrun by Nature Enthusiast

The story · English

Nature enthusiast Yitzhak Carmeli has revealed the discovery of an ancient wine press, located on a hill overlooking the Sha'ar HaGai interchange, Highway 38, and the Latrun area. Carmeli demonstrated how easily historical remnants can be found by simply observing the landscape for unusual features.

He pointed out that signs of ancient settlement can be identified by looking for rocks with unique shapes, covered water cisterns, or fig trees, which often indicate past habitation. Carmeli's keen observation led him to notice stone quarrying marks, which guided him to the impressive ancient wine press.

In a video documenting his find, Carmeli showcased the carved structure, including the treading floor and the channel through which grape juice would have flowed into a collection pit.
