Herzog Honors 11 Israelis for Exceptional Contributions

President Isaac Herzog presented the Presidential Medal of Distinction for 2026 to 11 individuals on Sunday evening, recognizing their exceptional and ongoing contributions to Israel, society, and humanity. The ceremony, held at the President's Residence, honored figures from diverse fields, including science, law, and public service.

Among the recipients was Professor Hussam Haick, from Nazareth, who was recognized for his significant achievements in science, research, and innovation, impacting both Israel and the world. The other honorees included Yona Eliyan-Kishit, Professor Mooli Lahad, Professor Hephzibah Lifshitz, Professor Yossi Leshem, Aybi Moses, Ziva Mekonen, Advocate Moshe Nissim, Rabbi Chaim Sabato, Yehuda Eder, and Professor Uriel Reichman.

President Herzog praised the recipients, calling them "Israel's dream team" and "beacons in their fields." He emphasized their ability to create tangible impacts extending globally and noted that some have significantly enhanced Israel's international standing. The President also highlighted the growing involvement of Arab citizens in public life and the increasing achievements across all societal segments, stating that Israel's future will be more diverse.

Addressing the current political climate and societal divisions, Herzog cautioned against viewing elections as a civil war, stressing the importance of unity. "After the elections, we will all still be here together; brothers and sisters," he stated.

The Presidential Medal of Distinction, established by former President Shimon Peres, is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions through their work, talents, or service. The ceremony was attended by the head of the advisory committee, retired Supreme Court Justice Professor Yoram Danziger, and the head of the Jewish Agency, Major General (Res.) Doron Almog, alongside bereaved families and families of returned abductees.
