Netanyahu Adjusts Likud List After Party Pressure
Hours before the deadline for submitting party lists for the upcoming elections, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly altering his initial plan for reserved spots at the top of the Likud party's slate. Senior party officials exerted pressure on Netanyahu, expressing concern that too many reserved slots would push out elected Likud representatives. This change comes after Netanyahu's recent attempts to use these reserved positions to bring prominent new figures into the party.
One notable offer involved Beer Sheva Mayor Rubik Danilovich, who was reportedly offered the third spot on the Likud list, a senior ministerial position, and deputy prime minister status. However, Danilovich ultimately rejected the offer after consideration. Other local authority leaders, including Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut Mayor Chaim Bibas and Dimona Mayor Beni Biton, were also approached but have not yet agreed to join the list at this stage.
The deadline for submitting the electoral lists is 1:00 PM today, and negotiations regarding reserved spots and political alliances are expected to continue until shortly before the closing time.
