The IDF’s pilot program for integrating female tank crews, which had prompted threats from leading hesder yeshiva rabbis not to send their students to the Armored Corps, will be carried out outside the corps. According to information obtained by ynet, the pilot will take place within the Border Defense Array.
The framework will be gender-segregated: there will be no men in the tank and none in the company. In practical terms, the decision means the pilot will be managed outside the Armored Corps, under the Border Defense Array, while the Armored Corps will provide professional support and guidance.
The move changes the structure of the planned experiment but not its purpose, which is to test the integration of female fighters into tank service. No timetable was given in the report for when the pilot will begin or how long it will run.
