ANU Museum of the Jewish People Announces Diverse September Cultural Program

The ANU Museum of the Jewish People in Tel Aviv is set to host a varied cultural program throughout September, featuring art, literature, film, theater, and a youth art lab. The month kicks off on September 4th with "Caravaggio's Shadow," a lecture by Elena Galinskaya focusing on the revolutionary artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, coinciding with his 455th birthday. The lecture will explore Caravaggio's dramatic life and his lasting impact on European painting, followed by museum tours.

On September 16th, the museum will present Mikhail Korol's book, "Koroli. Semeinyye predaniya na fone istoricheskoy deystvitelnosti i naoborot" (Kings. Family Legends Against the Backdrop of Historical Reality and Vice Versa). This event will feature a tour of the museum's exhibits on Jewish family life before the book's presentation by Korol and book artist Tina Sindalovskaya.

The museum's "Resistance" series will screen Elena Yakovich's new documentary, "Nikolai Gumilev. Dochevtavshiy 'Iliadu'" (Nikolai Gumilev. He Who Finished Reading the 'Iliad'), on September 22nd, marking the 140th anniversary of the poet's birth. The film delves into Gumilev's adventurous life, his explorations in Africa, and his tragic end, utilizing previously unknown documents about his final days.

September 27th will feature a performance of "Love Letters," a play directed by Sergey Karaban and starring Dina Berdnikova and Sergey Karaban, depicting a decades-long correspondence between two people. The play premiered in London in June.

Also on September 27th, and running until October 1st, the museum will host the "Opori" (Supports) art laboratory for teenagers aged 12-18. This initiative, in partnership with The Walks, aims to provide a space for young people to explore art and create collaboratively during their autumn break. The art lab is supported by the Nadav Foundation and the Jewish Federation of New York.
