Israel's Security Cabinet Convenes Amid Tensions with Iran

Israel's Security Cabinet convened Sunday evening amid uncertainty regarding the situation in Iran, according to reports from Kan News. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated threats against Tehran, warning of a potential Israeli strike. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that alert levels concerning Iran remain high, though it is unclear if the situation will escalate to involve Israel directly.

Netanyahu stated at a pre-Rosh Hashanah government meeting that the Iranian regime's end is near, describing it as weak and struggling for survival. He asserted that completing the mission against Iran would definitively alter the Middle East and the history of the Jewish people, expressing confidence in Israel's capability to achieve this.

Earlier on Sunday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi stated that a surprise military drill conducted that day served as a message to adversaries, demonstrating the IDF's readiness to defend Israel and initiate attacks. Halevi added that any entity attempting to harm Israel or its citizens would pay a heavy price immediately. He noted the drill was part of implementing lessons learned from October 7th and assessing the IDF's preparedness for surprise warfare.

Separately, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced Sunday that in response to U.S. strikes on three Iranian vessels the previous day, Iran attacked three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and three vessels identified with the United States in other areas. Iran also warned the U.S. military against continuing the blockade and threatened further attacks.
