Maccabi Haifa may sell defender Lisav Eissat as interest grows from clubs in Europe, despite having signed him to a long-term contract. According to Sport5, newly promoted Bundesliga side Schalke has already submitted an offer for the 21-year-old after scouting him both in Romania’s national team matches and in Haifa games.
Schalke are looking to strengthen the center of defense. Their squad this season has included Edin Dzeko and goalkeeper Loris Karius, who recently extended his contract with the club. The German side wants Eissat for the 2026/2027 season.
Eissat had a breakthrough year at Maccabi Haifa, making 26 league appearances, scoring once and adding two assists. The highlight came when he was called up to Romania’s senior national team, for which he has already made four official appearances. His age, senior international caps and European passport are driving the strong interest.
Meanwhile, Haifa also extended Noam Staipman’s contract yesterday, alongside new deals for Sean Goldberg and Elad Amir. Pedro still has one more season on his contract, but another foreign defender is expected to arrive in his place, so Haifa would still have four center-backs even if Eissat is sold.
