Rabbi Y.S. Kanievsky said he chose to share this story to help an orphaned bride and groom who are due to marry in a few weeks. He said the groom was raised from birth in the home of his father, the late “Sar HaTorah” Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, and grew up there together with his family.
In his remarks, Kanievsky described the couple as both orphans and said, “This is an orphan boy and an orphan girl who are getting married, and the boy grew up here in the house from the day he was born. He was together with his whole family. And my father, may his memory be for a blessing, the father and mother, they raised them from the day they were born, all those years.” He added that the family now faces many difficulties.
Kanievsky also said that several of the groom’s siblings were married during Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky’s lifetime, and that the rabbi worked intensely to help them. According to him, the late rabbi wrote letters and spoke with people to secure support for those weddings, and those siblings went on to build families and have children. Now, he said, this child is marrying after the rabbi’s death and there is nobody left to help.
To meet the need, a donation campaign was launched with a target of 350 shekels from each donor, so the couple can begin married life and build their home. Kanievsky offered a special blessing for anyone who helps, saying God will show mercy to such supporters and that they themselves will not know grief or have orphans in their own families.
