Israel Railways Appoints New External Directors After Resignations
The committee for examining appointments has approved the appointment of two external directors to the board of Israel Railways, Dafna Ein Dor and Chen Cohen. Ein Dor previously served as director of the economics division at the Ministry of Transport. This comes after two female directors resigned approximately two months ago in protest of a previous appointment for the acting CEO position.
At that time, the Israel Railways board appointed Yaakov Marziano as acting CEO, replacing Avner Flor. In response, directors Sarah Frisch and Shlomit Galer resigned, stating the decision was "unworthy" and that they could not accept responsibility for it. Their resignations left the company without the legally required minimum of two external directors, a situation that prompted Israel Railways to petition the Supreme Court.
Following the court's directive for an urgent session, the appointments committee has now approved the new directors. The company had previously requested the removal of an application, leading thousands to download it. Additionally, the board has reinstated Avshalom Elmaliah as acting CEO. The committee also approved the appointment of Renana Yardeni as an external director for Israel Ports Company.
