Beersheba Mayor Rubik Danilovich Declines Likud Offer, Stays in Role

Beersheba Mayor Rubik Danilovich, who has served for 18 years, has reportedly rejected an offer from the Likud party to be placed in a high, protected position on their electoral list. The offer was extended by senior party officials.

Danilovich, who previously left the Labor party, has recently called for national unity and has reportedly decided to remain in his current mayoral position. He has previously turned down political offers from various parties across the political spectrum.

The potential recruitment of Danilovich to the ruling party comes amid Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's efforts to bring former IDF Chief of Staff and Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi into the Likud list. In recent days, several prominent mayors associated with Likud have spoken with Ashkenazi, attempting to persuade him to join the party's slate as one of Netanyahu's protected candidates.
