U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance responded overnight Tuesday to criticism over understandings with Iran, including a sharp attack by Channel 14 host Yinon Magal, who called Vance a “scum” and President Donald Trump a “loser” in a post on X. The discussion came up in an interview with former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, after Kelly described Magal as a mouthpiece for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The American spotlight on Magal's post was brought by journalist Barak Ravid, who drew attention to it during an interview on CNN. Throughout the conversation, Vance defended the Trump administration's policy toward Iran and made clear he was frustrated by criticism from media figures and influencers aligned with the American and Israeli right.
Asked about the backlash, Vance said, “It’s interesting why they call it the ‘Vance agreement’ and not the ‘Trump agreement.’” He then went further, saying, “If you find yourselves embracing Iranian propaganda only when it comes to this agreement, maybe you should reconsider your sources.”
Vance argued that people who routinely reject the Iranian regime’s claims are, in this case, adopting Tehran’s narrative. He also said opponents of the understandings have not offered a practical alternative, and that their preferred approach would mean continuing the war with no defined objective and no clear American interest.
