Likud Central Committee to Vote on Netanyahu's Reserved Knesset List Spots

The Likud movement's secretariat will convene on Monday at 5:00 PM for a crucial session to approve party chairman Benjamin Netanyahu's reserved spots on the Likud's list for the upcoming Knesset elections. According to party regulations, the Likud chairman is allocated seven reserved positions, allowing him to place candidates in safe seats regardless of primary election results. This significant political tool enables Netanyahu to shape the party's list based on strategic considerations, balance representation among different sectors, and reward loyalists.

Discussions are expected to focus on who will receive these reserved spots. The party aims to bring in new names while also rewarding candidates who performed poorly in the primaries and were consequently pushed down the list. Furthermore, Netanyahu reserves the right to place candidates from other parties on the Likud list to prevent them from running independently in the elections.

In the past, Netanyahu has used these reserved spots to unite right-wing factions, such as when he placed candidates from the Religious Zionism party, Rabbi Eli Ben Dahan and Ofir Sofer, on the list. This time, the reserved spots might be allocated to candidates from the "Winter" list or from the Religious Zionism party, potentially to make room for a union with the "Winter" list.
