Rabbi Dan Segal Addresses Ponevezh Yeshiva Ahead of High Holidays

Rabbi Dan Segal, a prominent spiritual guide, delivered a motivational address at the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak ahead of the High Holidays and the anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman, the yeshiva's founder. Rabbi Segal's grandson, Rabbi Eliezer Kahaneman, who leads the yeshiva, also spoke at the event.

Rabbi Segal emphasized the profound gratitude owed to Rabbi Kahaneman for his dedication to preserving Torah study in Israel, particularly after the devastation of the Holocaust. He highlighted Rabbi Kahaneman's personal sacrifices to ensure the continuity of Jewish learning.

Addressing the upcoming Days of Awe, Rabbi Segal noted that traditional prayers prioritize requests for the sanctification of God's name and the coming of the Messiah over personal needs. He described this focus as an act of self-sacrifice for God's name, which brings divine assistance and miracles.

The spiritual leader also stressed the importance of interpersonal relationships within the yeshiva, urging students to encourage and uplift one another. He stated that the essence of Torah study involves bringing joy to fellow Jews and that praising a peer's insights is a significant spiritual act. He concluded by referencing the current challenges facing Torah institutions and reassured students with the divine promise that Torah will never be forgotten, encouraging them to overcome distractions, study joyfully, and support each other for a good inscription and a blessed year.
