Israeli Shelling Continues in Gaza Amid Renewed Evacuation Calls

An Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip continued on Saturday, with reports of shelling and gunfire across various areas. A child sustained moderate injuries from Israeli army gunfire in the Al-Sudaniyah area, northwest of Gaza City, near displaced persons' camps. Israeli "quadcopter" drones dropped explosive devices on homes in eastern Gaza City's Al-Mashta Street and Al-Shuja'iya market areas, with no reported casualties. Heavy gunfire from Israeli vehicles was also reported east of the city, as well as in central Gaza near Deir al-Balah and the Bureij camp.

In southern Gaza, Israeli artillery shelled areas northwest of Rafah, while Israeli vehicles fired heavily towards areas south of Khan Younis. Israeli naval vessels also fired on the coast of Khan Younis. These developments follow Friday's casualties, which included two killed and others injured in Israeli attacks across the Strip, including Gaza City. A three-year-old girl was seriously injured in the head by gunfire directed at displaced persons' tents in Khan Younis.

Politically, the issue of displacing Gaza's residents has resurfaced following recent statements by Israeli ministers. Minister of Intelligence Gadi Eisenkot stated on Wednesday that he sees "no real solution" for Gaza without its population migrating, adding that Israel is prepared to facilitate this "by sea, air, and other means," though he noted the plan is currently frozen. Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir presented a seven-year plan on Thursday for the "voluntary migration" of Gaza's residents, proposing the establishment of a dedicated ministry for this purpose in the next Israeli government.

These events occur as political efforts regarding Gaza's future, including ceasefire stages, withdrawal, Hamas disarmament, and reconstruction, remain stalled amidst disagreements, with no significant political breakthrough reported by Saturday morning.
