Russia: NATO Would Back Israel Over Turkey in Hypothetical War

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that NATO would not side with Turkey in a hypothetical military conflict between Turkey and Israel. Zakharova explained that the United States, which she described as having an "absolutely extraordinary" level of alliance with Israel, dominates NATO and would not permit the alliance to act against Israel, which the U.S. considers "more than an ally."

Zakharova made these remarks to "Rossiya Segodnya" television, emphasizing that the U.S. has a "decisive voice" and "runs all affairs in NATO." She suggested that the U.S. would prevent any action against Israel due to the exceptionally close ties between the two nations.

The possibility of a military confrontation between Turkey and Israel has recently become a topic of journalistic speculation. This speculation is reportedly fueled by Turkish President Erdoğan's regime's efforts to establish a presence in Syria and expand its geopolitical influence towards Israel. Israel has reportedly responded with "missile and bomb" measures, which have angered Ankara, although Turkey denies intentions to establish a base for its intelligence services or deploy military resources on Syrian territory.
