Iranian Missiles Intercepted Over Jordan, Air Defenses Active in Kuwait

Saudi-affiliated Al-Hadath TV reported the interception of Iranian missiles over northern Jordan on Friday evening. Concurrently, reports indicated that air defense systems were activated in Kuwait. The intended targets of the missiles intercepted over Jordan remain unclear. A senior U.S. official stated that Washington is not aware of any fire directed at American bases in Jordan at this time.

These reports follow Iranian media claims from Thursday that at least 13 military personnel and Revolutionary Guards were killed in U.S. strikes in Iran earlier in the week. The developments also occur against the backdrop of the Trump administration's efforts to avoid further escalation with Iran in the near future.

Reuters reported last Wednesday that senior aides to President Donald Trump are seeking to prevent an escalation ahead of the November midterm elections, aiming to mitigate expected Republican losses. Sources speaking to Reuters suggested the White House might consider increasing hostilities with Iran after the November 3rd elections, though this possibility is far from a final decision. The administration is currently focused on intensifying economic pressure on Tehran to achieve concessions in future negotiations.

"We continue to exert pressure on Iran," a senior White House official told Reuters, "but November is the priority."
