New Playwriting Workshop Launches in Shfaram

A pioneering theatrical writing workshop, the first of its kind in Israel, commenced on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Shfaram. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Horizon Foundation for Culture and Arts, the Shfaram Municipality's Culture Department, and the Shfaram Community Center.

The workshop is overseen by theater artist and writer Dr. Afif Shleiyout, who will guide participants with his extensive academic and artistic experience. The program will also feature guest actors to enrich the participants' creative process and introduce them to new avenues in playwriting.

Spanning 15 intensive sessions, the workshop aims to significantly enhance participants' abilities. Key areas of focus include understanding dramatic structures and various playwriting forms, developing plot and characters, and mastering the techniques of crafting dialogue, dramatic conflict, and character arcs.

Upon completion, each participant will have written short play scripts across different genres. Organizers view the workshop as a crucial opportunity for aspiring writers in Shfaram and the surrounding region to hone their skills and develop their ideas into complete theatrical projects, potentially contributing new productions to local stages.
