Bnei Brak Rabbi Cancels Sabbath Protest After Police Pledge Business Closure

The Chief Rabbi of Bnei Brak, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Landau, announced the cancellation of a planned protest against the opening of a business on the Sabbath. The protest was called off following intervention by senior police officials who committed to ensuring the business on HaLachi Street would be closed on the Sabbath.

Rabbi Landau urged residents to remain vigilant and ensure the commitment to Sabbath observance is upheld in the future. The decision to cancel came after police intervention, though residents were initially called to demonstrate against what was described as a "severe breach" of Sabbath observance in the city, unprecedented in decades.

Earlier, city rabbis had urged residents to participate in the protest, scheduled for Saturday evening, citing failed attempts to resolve the issue through legal channels. They warned of the potential for further businesses to open on the Sabbath.

Simultaneously, a meeting took place between Israel Police representatives and Bnei Brak municipal officials to address potential road closures in the area of the supermarket complex. The meeting aimed to de-escalate tensions and find a mutually agreed-upon solution, with the police emphasizing their commitment to maintaining public order and strictly handling any acts of violence or criminal offenses.
