Singer Orit Attar Releases Prayerful Song for Bibas Family

Israeli singer and songwriter Orit Attar has released "Min HaMetzar," the first single from her upcoming album, scheduled for release before the High Holidays. Attar wrote and composed the song, with musical arrangement and production by Gabriel Goyerchmann.

The song is a prayer dedicated to the memory of Shiri Bibas and her children, Ariel and Kfir, who were killed during the conflict. It centers on the figure of a deceased woman standing before her creator, pleading for mercy for her children. Attar incorporates original lyrics and melody with verses from Psalms, specifically "From distress I called to you, Lord; you answered me with freedom" (Psalm 118:5).

The piece transitions between a personal narrative and a broader prayer for the Jewish people, with the female figure also serving as a metaphor for the collective Jewish people seeking divine compassion for its children. Attar, known for her work in Moroccan piyyut (liturgical poetry) and her debut album "Ya'alat Chen," has previously performed as a soloist with Andalusian orchestras in Israel and abroad. Her new song brings themes of prayer into a personal work addressing loss and the plea for mercy, featuring lyrics such as, "In fear and trembling, with head bowed, she asked for mercy for her children."
