Maccabi Tel Aviv Shows Promise in Preseason Loss Despite Missing Players

Maccabi Tel Aviv began their preseason with a narrow 86-84 loss to Bnei Herzliya in a friendly match on Thursday. Despite leading by double digits at one point, the team squandered their advantage. However, the club is not overly concerned with the result, attributing it to a depleted roster. Several key players, including Roman Sorkin, Yovel Zoosman, Jalen Reynolds, and Daniel Theis, were rested following the international break. Additionally, injured players like Gur Lavi and TJ Leaf, along with Jalen Clark who suffered a partial hamstring tear and is expected to miss two to three weeks, were unavailable.

The absence of these players meant that younger players who joined for the preparation period received significant playing time. These younger players are expected to depart the team once the preseason concludes. Despite the circumstances, new guard Keiton Wallace made a strong impression, scoring 20 points and showcasing his passing and shooting abilities, which have also impressed coaches in early training sessions. "He's making a very good impression, and it looks like he can give us a lot," a team source stated.

Another newcomer, forward Bonzie Colson, also had a solid debut, contributing 15 points and appearing comfortable on the court. "He already feels at home and was significant in the game," a team representative commented. Forward Armando Bacot added 9 points and 8 rebounds, demonstrating strength under the basket.

Overall, Maccabi Tel Aviv left the game encouraged by the initial implementation of their offensive schemes developed in practice. "Things look good and we feel the process is right.
