France, one of the leading favorites to win the 2026 World Cup, opened the tournament with an impressive victory over African champion Senegal. After a balanced first half, the 2018 world champions took control and produced two excellent goals, both coming from Kylian Mbappé in the 66th minute and Bradley Barcola in the 82nd.
Senegal reduced the deficit through Ibrahim Ambe in the 95th minute, but France immediately responded. One minute later, Mbappé struck again with a powerful finish to seal the 3-1 win.
The result gave France a strong start to its campaign and confirmed its status as a title contender. Senegal, despite the late goal, could not stop the French side once it shifted into control after halftime.
