Over Half a Million Pray at Western Wall for Selichot Services
More than half a million worshippers have visited the Western Wall for Selichot (penitential prayers) services since the beginning of the Hebrew month of Elul. The central Selichot service held Thursday night drew over 50,000 people, filling the plaza and surrounding areas.
Due to the immense crowds, the service was broadcast on large screens erected on the Old City walls, allowing thousands more to participate remotely. This marks a record-breaking attendance for the Selichot services at the Western Wall.
Services are expected to continue throughout Elul and up to the eve of Yom Kippur, with hundreds of thousands more worshippers anticipated at the holy site.
