Gaza Ceasefire Violation: IDF Forces Fired Upon in Northern Strip

Israeli military forces operating in northern Gaza were targeted by gunfire overnight Friday. No soldiers were injured in the incident, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded with an attack in the area. The IDF stated that the shooting constitutes a "blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement" in the Gaza Strip and that it views attempts by Gaza terror groups to advance terror plots against IDF forces in the area with severity.

Earlier in the week, a joint operation by the IDF and the Shin Bet security agency resulted in the arrest of the head of Hamas's internal security mechanism in Gaza. According to security information, this senior Hamas official had recently been focused on strengthening the terror organization's control in the northern part of the Strip, as well as planning and executing attacks against IDF soldiers operating near the border fence. The arrested individual was transferred to Israel for further security interrogation.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited a military post near the Gaza border fence on Wednesday, accompanied by IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi, Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor, and Brig. Gen. Elad Tzuri, commander of the 99th "Flash" Division. During the visit, Netanyahu received comprehensive operational briefings from commanders regarding ongoing activities, efforts to neutralize risks, and the protection of soldiers and nearby Israeli communities.

Netanyahu asserted during his visit, "We control the area here. You can see Ashkelon there, you can see all our communities from all directions: Sderot, Netivot, the kibbutzim. We are not retreating. We are staying on this line." He added, "We control 60% of the Strip, and there is more to come because we are eliminating the terrorists who threaten us, doing so day after day. Yesterday we captured the head of Hamas's security. We will surely learn some things. But we are doing everything to achieve our goal, dismantling Hamas's weaponry and demilitarizing Gaza. Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel. This goal has largely been achieved, and there is more work to be done, and we will complete it."
