Israeli Ministries Deny Public Health Risk from Algae Spraying

Israel's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Water Authority have responded to the spraying of substances over algae in the Mediterranean Sea, which led to the shutdown of desalination facilities. They stated that "it is a shame that some are spreading fakes and sowing panic among the public. There is no substance that endangers public health. The bathing beaches are safe for use."

They further reported that the "Levies Committee, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Health and Agriculture, approved the use of substances that are permitted for use in drinking water and do not pose a danger to public health or the marine environment." This action was taken with the goal of returning the desalination facilities to full operation.

The authorities' statements come amid public concern following the spraying, which has impacted the functionality of critical water infrastructure. The ministries emphasized that the approved materials are safe and that the beaches remain open for public use, aiming to quell fears and restore confidence in the water supply system.
