Toxic Pesticides Dumped Off Ashkelon Coast Without Public Notice
The Water Authority conducted an unusual experiment, releasing toxic pesticides at levels 27 times higher than the standard into the sea approximately one kilometer off the coast of Ashkelon. The action was taken to eliminate algae that were disrupting desalination facilities.
The operation was carried out without prior notification to the public. Following the release, the Ministry of Health recommended an immediate fishing ban in the area due to concerns about potential health damage and toxins.
Both the Water Authority and the Ministry of Energy maintain that the substances used are approved and that the beaches are completely safe for public use.
