Yanki Deri, the son of Shas chairman Arye Deri, is expected to be appointed co-chairman of KKL-JNF, according to a report published Tuesday by Channel 12 News. The position comes with an office, a car and aides, and he will be responsible for KKL-JNF's land matters.
The report noted that Deri's uncle, Momo Deri, previously held the same post. According to the elder Deri's camp, the appointment is temporary and unpaid.
Arye Deri's office said the job carries no salary and had originally been intended for former MK Moshe Arbel, but Arbel said he could not take it because of a conflict of interest. Since the role had remained vacant for months, the decision was made to appoint Yanki Deri on an interim basis.
The office added that Yanki Deri has served for years on the board of the Zionist Organization and will remain in the position until a permanent representative is named.
